Vail Mountain School’s 25th annual garage sale has amazing stuff.

You want amazing stuff.

Go there and swap some of your money for some of their stuff.

You’ll have the stuff you want.

VMS will have the money it needs.

Everyone will be happy.

And here endeth today’s lesson on the glories of capitalism.

The only thing left for you to do is participate.

Decades of delightfulness

For two decades, Vail Mountain School’s annual garage sale was a quaint affair confined to the cafeteria. Eventually stuff spilled into the hallways.

A few years ago, The Garage Sale Group decided that, because it’s spring and their youngsters should be playing outside, and because the gym was simply sitting there, they’d expand the garage sale and move it into the gym.

If it keeps going like this, then they’re going to need a bigger gym.

“We’ve had an incredible outpouring of support from the community through donations. There’s furniture, tons of clothing, appliances, toys, electronics, tools, baby items, sporting goods, bikes, skis, artwork, housewares, linens and much, much more,” said Vail Mountain School parent Sue Franciose, the organizer of the event.

Rams and rockers

Along with the racks of clothes and stacks of shoes — including lots of high-end labels — there’s a ram’s head mounted like a hunting trophy. Best of all, you don’t have to be a Colorado State University grad to appreciate it. For the uninitiated, CSU is the Rams. Alas, so far no one has donated a University of Colorado buffalo head.

There’s this set of moose antlers, though, which works out well if you’re a proud graduate of Utica college, whose mascot is the Moose, and not necessarily Bullwinkle J. Moose, who was probably not talking about the Utica football team when Bullwinkle says: “And now, here’s something we hope you’ll really like!”

There’s a set of electronic drums. For the purists, there are also a couple of regular acoustic Old School drum sets, which you really want to buy as presents for your sibling’s small children. For your siblings you’ll want the noise canceling headphones.

All about the bargains

About those clothes. You’ll find some high-end labels and items will cost as little as $5 each.

You’ll also find some $350 ski pants for $40, coats for $15, windsurfing and kite surfing gear, every kind of ski gear and sporting equipment imaginable, all sorts of art, Ralph Lauren chairs, cases of new toys from The Toy Store, $300 shoes from Odd Molly that you can pick up for one-tenth of that price …

You get the idea.

The annual event is one of the largest garage sales in the Vail Valley and raises a bunch of money for Vail Mountain School.

If you’re an over achiever and want to shop early, then it’ll cost you $5 to get in today. The very nice people from Vail Mountain School will give you a $5 coupon you can use to buy stuff. Fill-a-bag-for-$20 starts at noon on Saturday.

Among the business that donated some of this wonderful stuff:

• Nest

• Ritzy Recalls

• Wishes Toy Store

• The Toy Store

• Odd Molly

• Skipper and Scout
