BEAVER CREEK — Artist Patrick Matthews returns to Paderewski Fine Art in Beaver Creek, from today through Tuesday, March 14. Witness this contemporary landscape painter create compelling local and worldwide landscapes consisting of distinct texture and bold color.

Matthews is a Little Rock, Arkansas, native who started his career as an independent architect and, although very successful, discovered a passion for neo-impressionistic painting. As an accomplished artist of more than 10 years, he has earned a spot as one of Paderewski’s best sellers and most popular artists.

Matthews is an avid camper, hunter and fisherman and often immerses himself in nature’s elements with paintbrush in hand to capture perspectives and detailed beauty.

“Painting outdoors, surrounded by nature, in all seasons, I am energized,” he said. “I have a sense of inner strength, joy and peace I feel nowhere else. My very vision changes, and paintings appear on my canvases as though put there by some mysterious force. The best I’m able to do by way of describing the experience is to say that the energy that flows out of me when I paint seems to come from difference sources other than my body.

“Each of these outside sources — the weather, the smell of the forest, the sounds of water and the wildlife, the wind, the temperature, the stillness, the solitude — the color and texture of the oil paint seems to create its own energy. And the force of these combined energies is greater than the parts.”
