Best Burrito — Best of the Vail Valley 2019
1. Rocky Mountain Taco
2. La Cantina
3. Fiesta’s Cafe & Cantina
The next time you head to the Rocky Mountain Taco truck, don’t be surprised if the sign reads “World’s Most Best Taco and Burrito.” Though tacos might have been the original idea, Rocky Mountain Taco’s burritos are pretty spectacular. How do they do it? Fresh ingredients, homemade sauces and easy customization.
“Everything is made fresh every day,” said Dan Purtell, one of Rocky Mountain Taco’s owners. “We’re still not cutting any corners; nothing is pre-made.”
With fresh tortillas and a variety of burritos that are stuffed with flavors (and not rice and beans), Rocky Mountain Taco melds traditional flavors from Chef Jose Reza’s Chihuahua upbringing with SoCal sensibilities.
Rocky Mountain Taco offers five different burritos, each with its own particular flavor and appeal: Alambre, Al Pastor, Carne Asada, Hippie Crack, Pork Carnitas and White Chick.
“The Hippie Crack mixed with the Alambre is really popular,” Purtell said. “And the Alambre burrito is probably our best seller with steak, chorizo, peppers and onions. I don’t think anyone else has an Alambre on the menu.”
