2. Leadville

3. Hanging Lake

Picture it: snow gently falling, aching muscles after a day on the mountain and the purple of dusk slowly dropping under the Rocky Mountains. A soak in one of the 16 pools, ranging in temperature from 98 to 108 degrees, at Iron Mountain Hot Springs will cure whatever ails you. Different sizes, shapes and temperatures make for a lovely way to while away an afternoon. The freshwater family pool, pleasantly cooler than the soaking pools and geothermally heated to 94 degrees, provides fun for the younger generation. No need to pack a snack: The Sopris Cafe has a hearty menu and libations to suit.

“Wow, we are so grateful for this award. With all the outdoor and recreational options in this beautiful place in which we live, it’s truly an honor to be chosen as the best day trip from Eagle County. Thank you for this and for spending time at Iron Mountain Hot Springs,” said Jeanne Beckley, with Iron Mountain.
