Best Margarita — Best of Vail Valley 2019
3. Mountain Standard
Few places in the Vail Valley are more synonymous with margaritas than Maya, Richard Sandoval’s “modern Mexican kitchen,” located in the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa in Avon. After all, the restaurant boasts a collection of nearly 100 tequilas and mezcals, and their margarita list is extensive and varied. Solid classics and creative new cocktails keep tequila lovers coming back for more.
Maya’s best seller is the traditional marg, said Kevin Delonay, Westin’s director of food and beverage, but less conventional drinks are increasingly popular, too. He recommends trying the Oaxacan mule, a smoky mezcal version of the classic Moscow mule. “We’re always searching for a really good core tequila here, and when paired with our fresh-squeezed juice and in-house sours, it’s a winning combination,” said Delonay.
In the summer, enjoy a Maya margarita on the restaurant’s spacious deck while listening to live music during Maya’s popular Friday Afternoon Club. In the winter, sip from their moody bar area while enjoying snowy views of Beaver Creek Mountain.

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
