Best Wait Staff — Best of Vail Valley 2019
1. Drunken Goat
Drunken Goat in Edwards has one of the best happy hours around — $1 oysters, $5 glasses of wine, $10 cheese boards — and, according to Vail Daily readers, the best wait staff, pound for pound, in the valley.
Owner Casey Glowacki attributes that to the leadership of GM Lily Doran and, when filling out a staff to open the restaurant, taking a chance on some green servers who “had no bad habits.”
“It just goes to show, you can train anybody with a good attitude,” Glowacki said. “They were eager to learn, they were sponges and they’re working hard.”
Drunken Goat, to be sure, isn’t stuffy. It’s a casual, relaxed place to grab lunch, or an after-work drink on the patio, or dinner before heading out for a night on the town.
“We don’t claim to be perfect, and it’s not uptight,” Glowacki said. “It’s not stiff. Our servers, even our youngest, green servers, can be themselves and admit that maybe they don’t know how to open a bottle of wine perfectly, but we’re going to get it to you and we’re going to make it happen. People appreciate the honesty and it’s a breath of fresh air.”
