Special to the Daily

Chris Chantler, owner and tea buyer of the Vail Mountain Coffee and Tea Co., will discuss traditional tea and fill some cups along the way at Tea on the Terrace.

The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens will be presenting Tea on the Terrace on Monday, Aug. 13, to thank all of its members for their generous contributions in making the gardens such a beautiful part of our community and to encourage all people interested in becoming new members to join in the fun.

Tea on the Terrace will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on the rooftop terrace at the Education Center, located in Ford Park west of the playground. Free parking will be available in the Vail parking structure and Ford Park.

The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is free and open to the public, therefore it relies on memberships to provide funds to host the events and activities for members on its premises. Memberships are greatly appreciated.

Darjeeling tea

Chris Chantler, owner and tea buyer of the Vail Mountain Coffee & Tea Co, will give a presentation on traditional tea, filling tea cups along the way. He will feature Darjeeling tea because it has a great history and interesting stories to tell. Darjeeling teas are often referred to as the Champagne of teas.

While in Switzerland, Chanter and Craig Arseneau were watching the 1989 World Skiing Championships and fell in love with Vail. They were looking for an excuse to start their own business and had been interested in the development of the specialty coffee industry, so they opened the original Daily Grind Coffee Co. Chanter has traveled the world in search of the perfect tea leaf and will be available to discuss the history of tea and answer questions.
