VAIL — Chef Tom Whittich, from bol restaurant in Vail Village, returns to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens for Chefs in the Gardens at noon today in the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater lobby.

Whittich began his culinary career New York, where he attended the Culinary Academy of Long Island. He spent eight years developing his skills in French cuisine, working in various bistros and brasseries and under "Chopped" contestant Mark Anthony Bynum. He moved to Vail in 2014 and worked at the Bully Ranch in the Sonnenalp Hotel before joining the culinary team at Bol. For Thursday's program, Whittich will be preparing bol's avocado toast.

Chefs in the Gardens is a six-week summer program at Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater lobby, just outside the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. The program offers a unique and intimate live cooking experience. Local chefs from area restaurants demonstrate cooking techniques and share culinary tips and recipes, and participants receive a sampling of the prepared food following the demonstration.
