Here’s a look at events happening across the valley celebrating the “fastest 2 minutes in sports” — the Kentucky Derby.

Vail Derby Party

Get a taste of the Kentucky Derby by attending the Vail Derby Party today, a fundraiser for Children’s Garden of Learning preschool. The $50 ticket includes heavy appetizers and drink tickets, including mint juleps and mint juleps from the slushy machine at The Remedy Bar at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail. There will also be rare and specialty bourbons available at the Bourbon Bar that are straight from the Four Seasons Vail’s private collection and from its beverage director, Steven Teaver’s personal collection.

You’ll feel like you are at the racetrack with plenty of hats and seersucker and brightly colored suits worn by partygoers. All proceeds from this event go to support Children’s Garden of Learning’s financial-aid program for low-income families, teacher retention and building improvements.

10th Mountain Whiskey

Also in Vail, the 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Co. will be hosting its fourth annual Bridge Street Derby Party at its tasting room on Bridge Street from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 and will be sold at the door and will include a Southern-style barbecue and a mint julep in a pewter cup.

Besides the race on television, a few raffles and contests will take place. Buy a raffle ticket for $5 and the winner will receive a bottle of 10th Mountain Whiskey. There will also be a pick-a-loser contest, in which you pick which three horses will finish at the back of the pack. All proceeds of the drawings are going to benefit the Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, who will also be providing a couple of mini-horses outside the tasting room to advertise the event.
