Martial arts masters Shaolin Warriors come direct from China to Beaver Creek

Daily staff report

BEAVER CREEK — Direct from China, the legendary Shaolin Warriors will kick, punch and tumble in their world-renowned martial arts show at the Vilar Performing Arts Center today at 7:30 p.m.

More than a kung fu show, Shaolin Warriors is a traditional strength through adversity story. Featuring rarely seen Buddhist meditation alongside deadly martial-arts prowess, this extravaganza starring 20 kung fu masters follows the journey from a young child's initiation into a monastery to achieving fully fledged warrior status through diligent training and study.

From balancing on sharp metal spears to smashing marble slabs, from the troupe's incredible synchronization to their proficiency with 18 dangerous traditional weapons, the Shaolin Warriors has amazed audiences beyond the boundaries of their own belief.

During the past 16 years, the show has become a worldwide sensation, playing to sold-out audiences and standing ovations from North America to the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. The Washington Post has said of the performers, "… they combine the agility and grace of gymnasts with the showmanship of Cirque du Soleil performers."
