Painting the Southwest
The vibrant colors of the Southwest, scenic vistas and the mix of cultures provides subject matter close to his home. He has been published in articles in Southwest Art Magazine, Western Art and Architecture, Western Art Collector and Antiques Magazine.
Morel has been the recipient of awards at numerous juried competitions across the country and is an active participant in nationally known exhibitions including the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma, Albuquerque Museum of Art, The Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, Gilcrease Museum’s American Art in Miniature in Tulsa and the Maynard Dixon Invitational in Mt. Carmel, Utah.
His work is represented by Nedra Matteucci Gallery in Santa Fe and J. Chris Morel studio in Vadito, New Mexico. Morel is a highly respected instructor limiting his workshops to select locations each summer.
As he reaches a weightless apex atop its arc, Cypher seems to absorb a drop of the tree’s remaining life to find a moment of beauty amid the tragedy of another dying evergreen.
