When it comes to food in the Vail and Beaver Creek area, lifetime local and career restaurateur Riley Romanin takes it personally. And it shows with his innovative approach and dedication to quality ingredients in everything he touches. At Hooked in Beaver Creek, he’s driving to Denver multiple times per week to pick up the freshest fish – allowing him and his team to be the only ones in the area to dry age their fish this winter. At R Farmers’ Market in Avon, he’s bringing farm fresh goods served at his restaurants to customers to take home and work with on their own.

And his latest project, filled with not just passion, but an unwavering commitment, is making its debut this winter – R Farmers’ Market & Kitchen. Romanin is expanding his R Market space in Avon into the adjoining space, and expanding on his farm-to-table offerings.
“Pushing and trying to raise the bar, that’s always our goal,” Romanin said, while being interviewed in the middle of the construction of R Farmers’ Market & Kitchen prior to opening. “Because the more that we show the community what people are capable of, the more that other places are pushed to try to come up as well. That’s always been my goal — to have Eagle County, Colorado, be known as a culinary destination.”
A Battle Mountain High School graduate, Romanin was immediately drawn to the culinary world and was the first to graduate from the ProStart program — a prestigious National Restaurant Association program.

R Farmers’ Market & Kitchen is a European-style gastronomic cafe, where Romanin and his team use the freshest local ingredients and a dedication to the craft to serve up the perfect products. Handcrafted butchery means they butcher down whole animals and make their own lunch meats, and they’re partnering with Michel’s Bakery for fresh baked bread daily — a local bakery serving the community for 50-plus years.

Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., mornings at R Market feature fresh pastries and croissants, fruit cups and parfaits, antipasti and handmade sandwiches — everything made from scratch.

Meats and cheeses hang from the ceiling, with ham from local pork, roast beef from local beef and their own smoked turkey breast. A giant slicer awaits because everything in R Farmers’ Market & Kitchen is made as fresh as possible.
A pizza oven and panini press come out for lunch services, cranking out handmade, artisan Italian-style pizzas and flatbreads.
You can’t miss, and don’t want to miss, the pastry case, filled with homemade pies and a variety of beautiful French pastries – petite gateaus (“small cakes”).
