Ski in a Nordic 5K this weekend
Join Vail Recreation District for the first event in the 2019 Bloch & Chapleau Vail Grail Winter Race Series.
Compete in individual races or complete all four races to have a shot at winning the coveted Vail Grail, a permanent trophy that will bear the male and female division winners’ names for years to come.
The race begins at noon, and you can register at vailrec.maxgalaxy.net.
The Vail Nordic 5K Citizens Race kicks off the four-race series today. This Nordic race takes place at noon at Maloit Park in Minturn, immediately following the Battle Mountain High School Nordic race that starts at 9:45 a.m.
After the race, participants will be treated to lunch at Kirby Cosmo’s BBQ Bar, located in downtown Minturn. Participants ages 21 and older will receive a free beer courtesy of Vail Brewing Co.
Top finishers in the male and female categories will receive prizes and all racers will be entered into a raffle for goodies courtesy of the race sponsors 808 Distillery, Alpine Wine & Spirits, HWK Ski Wax and Vail Mountain Coffee & Tea Co. Additional race sponsors include the town of Minturn, Vail Brewing Co. and PCL Construction.
The Vail Mountain Coffee & Tea Co. is open to the public today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to grab some fuel on your way to the race. The cafe is also open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kevin Clair of Sweet Basil received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Restaurant Association
The Colorado Restaurant Association awarded the honors at a ceremony on Oct. 15.
