The 535-seat Vilar Performing Arts Center — about to celebrate 20 years at Beaver Creek — hosts some pretty big names. Country star Trace Adkins, comedian David Spade and guitar hero Peter Frampton have all graced the stage recently.

But for two days, 60 local kids ages 8-18 are the stars of the show at the Vilar Center.

On Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12, Vail Performing Arts Academy students take to the world-class stage at 6:30 p.m. each night in a high energy musical revue featuring hit numbers from Tony Award nominated Broadway shows. Start thinking “Lion King,” “Hello Dolly,” “Hamilton” and more classics.

“We have another amazing show filled with 60 very diverse local students who will steal your heart with their voices, their dancing and their electric enthusiasm,” said Annah Scully, executive producer. “This show deals with current Broadway hits from Tony nominated shows that are powerful, transforming and edgy.”

Tickets for “It’s the Tony Awards Revue” are $20 and available at http://www.VilarPAC.org or by calling 970-845-TIXS.

‘The talent is just that good’

For Addie Maurer, this will be her eighth year with Vail Performing Arts Academy — having started in second grade.

In “It’s the Tony Awards Revue,” she’ll be singing, dancing and all over the stage for the multi-act set — from “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” to “The Book of Mormons.”

“It’s super fun and it makes me very proud of her and of Vail Performing Arts Academy,” said mom Dana Maurer. “They always pull the best out of all the kids on stage and wow us parents in the community with the great performances they put on.”

Addie is active in theater, participating in her church’s Christmas pageant, attending three-week theater camps in New York, singing in the choir and dancing with Vail Dance Academy.

“We’re so lucky to have the Vilar,” Dana said. “It’s the pinnacle of theater in the valley and it’s really exciting that our kids get to perform there. And they love it, too, because it’s a real stage with real tech and the staff at the Vilar is just phenomenal. They treat our kids like they’re the real deal, and we really appreciate that.”

While parents like Dana will be in attendance, of course, the show is really for everyone.

“I think that’s the cool thing about this program is it bring the community together to enjoy the arts,” Dana said.

If you go, do know that the performances are real and not pre-recorded.

“It seems like every show someone asks if so-and-so was lip synching, and the answer is always no,” Dana said. “The talent is just that good. We’re so lucky to have Vail Performing Arts Academy here to bring that talent out in our kids.”
