Independent Bookstore Day celebration
Saturday, April 29, all day
The Bookworm of Edwards, 295 Main Street
EDWARDS — Saturday is Independent Bookstore Day and The Bookworm is planning on celebrating all day.
Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country every year on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Not before. Not after. Not online.
Independent bookstores are not simply stores — they’re community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. They are entire universes of ideas that contain the possibility of real serendipity. They are lively performance spaces and quiet places where aimless perusal is a day well spent.
In a world of tweets, algorithms and pageless digital downloads, bookstores are not a dying anachronism. They are living, breathing organisms that continue to grow and expand. In fact, there are more of them this year than there were last year. And they are at your service.
Celebrate stories we cherish
Independent Bookstore Day is a celebration of books, readers and indie bookselling. Exclusive items available only for Independent Bookstore Day will be available at The Bookworm, including a certain literary-themed item you will have to see to believe. Additionally, in honor of the third annual Independent Bookstore Day, they are excited to offer their customers the opportunity to download five complimentary digital audiobooks from Libro.fm, plus two incredible samplers. Those will be free to download on this day only.
So before you settle in to the quiet lull of the offseason, stop in and celebrate with The Bookworm and the 457 other independent bookstores around the country who want to give back to the communities that have kept them alive and thriving. Ask any independent bookseller why they do what they do and be prepared for a 20 minute conversation about favorite books and changed lives. This passion and desire to share this passion with customers, new and old, is what drives The Bookworm staff. Independent Bookstore Day is a time to celebrate the stories we cherish and make way for those stories yet to come.
