The last Vail Oktoberfest weekend starts today. Here's how to do it right. | VailDaily.com

The last Oktoberfest weekend of the year starts today in Vail. Here’s how to do it right.

Vail's Oktoberfest celebrations span two weekends, first in Lionshead Village from Sept. 6-8, and then next weekend in Vail Village from Sept. 13-15.
Special to the Daily

Oktoberfests in the Vail Valley are a big deal. After all, Vail is modeled after German and Austrian ski towns. Raise a stein this weekend in the Vail Village and toast to incoming autumn and plenty of brats to go around.

James Deighan, who has worked with the Highline event planning group since it took over Vail Oktoberfest 18 years ago, said planning starts each year as soon as the event ends.

Creating that traditional feel is a top priority for Deighan and the rest of the organizers. Orders for kegs of German Spaten must be ordered six months in advance.

“The waitresses carry eight to 10 steins in each hand,” he said about Oktoberfest proper in Munich. “We put a whole lot of German and Bavarian spunk into our Oktoberfest and made it what it is today.”

Here’s a full schedule of events for the weekend.
