If you’re not quite ready to let Halloween go, you have another chance to wear costumes and get out and party at Shakedown Bar on Saturday night. The Runaway Grooms are coming to Vail and they are hosting an Elvis-themed Halloween costume party that will rock the night away.

“We love throwing Halloween parties because they feed into our obscure and zany sense of humor,” said Adam Tobin, who is the guitarist and vocalist for the band. “Ever since we threw the Spook Jam party back in 2020 we’ve been dying to get a proper Groom’s Halloween party going again specifically for the locals. This is something we hope to make a strong tradition out of.”

There will be costume contests and prizes for the best Elvis and the best traditional Halloween costume, but the guys in the band really want you to figure out how to incorporate some of the King of Rock and Roll into whatever you wear.

“Why’d we pick Elvis? We just thought it’d be hilarious if we all dressed up as Elvis including our girlfriends, and if everybody in the building had some sort of Elvis wig and sideburn getup. Elvis has so many classic styles that people can pull from, and even if people still wanted to dress up as something more traditional, like a witch, zombie or a pirate, they could still throw on some cool Elvis sunglasses or a wig and voila! They’re on theme,” Tobin said.

The Elvis theme will go beyond the outfits. Tobin said the band was turned on to the Elvis idea by drummer Justin Bissett. He introduced them to the album, “Elvis: As recorded at Madison Square Garden 1972.”

“This is a whirlwind of an album, and we will be drawing heavily from it throughout our performance on Saturday,” Tobin said. “Some of the songs on that album are a thousand miles an hour and are super high energy. Some songs also feature a wah wah pedal and some jam elements. We intend to honor all of these things and what you’ll get is a mixture of some high energy Elvis with some Jerry Garcia tones and a Groom’s psychedelic twist. Expect to hear a mixture of Elvis tunes, some spooky Doors music, and Runaway Grooms originals.” Tobin mentioned there may be some special guest appearances, too.

The Runaway Grooms just released a new live album, “Live at Soundcheck Studios, Pembroke MA 11.12.23” on all streaming platforms if you want to listen and get a preview of what they will be playing for the Halloween show. They are also excited to share music from “The Barn Sessions.”

“‘The Barn Sessions’ takes you into an intimate jam session with The Grooms at our beloved practice space right here in Eagle where you’ll hear new and old music and get to know the band. You can subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don’t miss a session,” Tobin said.

After touring all over the county the last few years, The Runaway Grooms will be staying local for the foreseeable future.

“We are taking a break from the road and focusing on ourselves and on our Colorado fan base. We will have more local shows this winter that we have yet to announce. In the meantime, we are writing a lot of new music and will periodically be releasing live seasonal sessions,” Tobin said.

The Halloween show at Shakedown Bar Vail will start at 9 p.m. and get there early if you haven’t secured tickets yet as The Runaway Grooms shows tend to sell out, especially when playing for a hometown crowd. For more information go to TheRunawayGroomsBand.com or ShakedownBarVail.com.
