10th Mountain vets to speak at Vail museum

VAIL – 10th Mountain Division veterans Dick Over and Earl Clark will speak about their experience as soldiers on skis in World War II at The Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum and Hall of Fame in Vail from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday.The 10th Mountain Division trained at Camp Hale, south of Red Cliff. Its take over of Riva Ridge from the Germans is considered a turning point in n World War II. After the war, the division’s veterans had a tremendous impact on the Colorado ski industry, with more than 60 ski resorts – including Vail – opened by 10th Mountain soldiers. The presentation includes artifacts and a slide show. The Ski & Snowboard Museum and Hall of Fame is located on the third level of the Vail Transportation Center. A $5 donation is requested for the presentation, which is free for members of the museum.
