13 tons of trash collected in Vail
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL – More than 13 tons of trash were collected at Vail’s recent spring cleanup. Residents took advantage of free Dumpsters and curbside pickup while another 80 volunteers picked up trash around town. Each of the volunteers also received a $25 donation to the charity of their choice.
Earlier in the month, the collection of 13,159 tons of electronic waste made Vail’s E-waste recycling event on May 14 the most successful collection to date. Combined with the town of Eagle and recycling efforts from businesses, over 27,000 tons of “e-waste” was kept out of the Eagle County Landfill. In addition, 46 computers and several speakers and monitors were donated to the Eagle Valley Community Fund to be refurbished.
The event was organized with help from the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability, Electronic Recyclers International, Chris Alexander with All Mountain Technologies and Mauri Nottingham, who helped collect for the Community Fund.
The town’s environmental sustainability office also is working on a business cardboard recycling program and will announce the winner of the “Celebrate Green!” sustainable special event award.
