$1B in stimulus for Colorado?
DENVER, Colorado ” Democratic congressman Ed Perlmutter says Colorado could get nearly $1 billion over the next two years from the federal economic stimulus package to help prevent deep budget cuts.
Perlmutter told state lawmakers on Friday the House version of the package would give Colorado $495 million this year and the same amount next year.
The Senate is working on its own plan, and it’s not yet known how much money it would give states to balance their budgets.
Lawmakers who oversee the state budget say Colorado could have a $1 billion shortfall between this year and next year.
Denver Democratic Rep. Mark Ferrandino, a member of the Joint Budget Committee, said the federal money could help at least soften the blow of some cuts.
