2 Colorado towns look to suspend pot dispensaries
LOUISVILLE, Colorado – Louisville and Erie officials are getting closer implementing a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries.
The Louisville City Council and the Erie Town Board on Tuesday gave initial approval to blocking new dispensaries while they wait for guidance from the state on how to regulate them. Officials at both municipalities say they hope the Legislature will address the issue.
Other municipalities around the state are also deciding how to regulate dispensaries. Lafayette and Longmont also gave initial approval to moratoriums last week, and Superior and Broomfield banned dispensaries last month.
Colorado voters in 2000 approved the use of marijuana for medical reasons, but local governments can control where the dispensaries can open.
