2 Do: Our picks for top activities in the Vail Valley today
1. Watch the Kids Adventure Race (with envy) — The 5th annual KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Games main event is today, offering kids ages 6 through 14 the opportunity to experience the thrill of adventure racing through Vail Village and the surrounding wilderness. During the race, teams of two will work together using a map to navigate a variety of sports and problem-solving challenges, including mountain biking, hiking, tubing, archery, a low ropes course, a zip line, a climbing wall, a Tarzan swing, a giant slip-n-slide and more.
2. Check out the BMX state qualifier — The BMX state qualifier race hits Eagle County BMX today starting at about 1 p.m. Registration is from 10:30 to 12.30 and the race to start as soon as the motos are posted. The Eagle County BMX track is located near the Pool & Ice Rink in Eagle, is a very spectator-friendly venue with plenty of parking, and is home to some of the county’s best riders. Today’s state qualifier race is the only local state qualifier race, anyone interested in bike riding is guaranteed to have fun whether competing (anyone with a bike is welcome) or just watching.
Heroes look like these guys: Bill “Sarge” Brown, Bob Parker, Pete Seibert, Sandy Treat, Dick Over, Hugh Evans and so many others from the 10th Mountain Division who helped win World War II and, while building the peace, also built the ski industry in the United States.
