2 people die in I-70 crash west of Denver
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – Two people are dead in a crash on Interstate 70, including a suspected drunken driver who was driving the wrong way on the highway.
It happened early Friday morning west of Denver in Wheat Ridge, closing the highway during the morning commute.
Police say a black Nissan Sentra heading eastbound in westbound lanes hit a Volvo head on. The 65-year-old driver of the Volvo got out of his car and was struck and killed by a passing semi-trailer. The truck also hit the Nissan and the 26-year-old female driver was thrown from the car.
Three other people in the Volvo were hospitalized. The truckdriver wasn’t injured.
No names have been released.
Police believe the Nissan driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The was seen earlier driving erratically. Officers were searching for it when the crash happened.
