5-year-old drowning victim identified

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Authorities have released the name of a 5-year-old boy who died after he was found in a pond near the line between Routt and Eagle counties.

The Steamboat Springs Pilot & Today reports Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis identified the boy as Colt Neuer, who wandered away from his parents on Thursday near the boundary of Eagle and Routt counties. An autopsy confirmed the boy drowned.

Eagle County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jessie Mosher says the boy was given CPR on the way to Vail Valley Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead. She says Colt, his two brothers and his parents were caretakers at a ranch in the area for the summer.
