6 people headed to Aspen-area hut found safe
ASPEN ” Six people who were headed to a mountain hut about 12 miles south of the Aspen, Colorado ski area in blizzard conditions have been found safe and sound.
Pitkin County sheriff’s officials say a man hiking to the hut with the group Friday got separated from them in blowing snow and called authorities after making his way out of the wilderness.
Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Steindler says the six reached the hut safely Friday but left Saturday morning over concerns about the man who was separated from them.
Steindler says four searchers on snowmobiles spotted the group Saturday, and all group members and rescuers were out of the wilderness Saturday afternoon, with no injuries.
