To honor those whose lives were lost in the 9/11 attacks in 2001, there will be an emergency vehicle convoy on Wednesday from the Vail Town Shops to Freedom Park. The convoy will leave the Vail Town Shops at 1 p.m.

The route will be South Frontage Road from the Vail Town Shops to the Red Sandstone Roundabout where the convoy will switch to North Frontage Road and continue west to West Vail. In West Vail, the convoy will enter Interstate 70 and use the interstate until Dowd Junction (Exit 171). The convoy will take U.S. Highway 6 from Dowd Junction to Avon Road where it will go north on Avon Road to West Beaver Creek Boulevard. The convoy will then take West Beaver Creek Boulevard past Avon Elementary to Highway 6 and Highway 6 to Miller Ranch Road. The convoy will use Miller Ranch Road past the schools and will end at Freedom Park at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The memorial service at Freedom Park is open to the public and all are invited to attend. The memorial service will begin at 1:45 p.m. and will last 20-30 minutes. After the memorial service, the public is invited to check out the various emergency vehicles on site for some show and tell with the first responders. Weather and calls for service permitting, a helicopter from Classic Air Medical will also be present.

Anyone who wishes to watch the convoy is welcome to park on Highway 6 (where you’re not blocking a driveway and there is plenty of shoulder to be off the roadway), or anywhere else along the route that doesn’t impede the flow of traffic or create a roadway hazard.
