91-year-old charged with attempted sex assault
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) ” A 91-year-old Palisade man will face at least three charges after a nursing home nurse accused him of trying to sexually assault her.
Ralph Allen Ridenour has been charged with attempted sexual assault through the use of force, attempted sexual contact through the use of force and false imprisonment.
He was arrested Oct. 21, after a nurse at Palisade Living Center told Palisade police that Ridenour grabbed her and repeatedly threatened to rape her after she tried to give him his medicine.
Ridenour was later transferred to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center for treatment of a blood clot in his leg.
Public Defender Ryan Esplin said his client’s mental condition would be a key question in the case. At a court hearing Oct. 24, Ridenour appeared to be sleeping, and the judge said she thought he was “playing games with the court.”
After a court hearing Wednesday, Deputy District Attorney Jon Levin said he did not know when Ridenour would have his competency evaluated.
Ridenour has another court hearing scheduled for Jan. 2.
