9Health Fair returns to Eagle Saturday
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado ” Anybody who has been to the doctor lately knows that health care costs are climbing.
Valley residents will once again have an opportunity for low-cost health screenings at the 9Health Fair, Colorado’s largest volunteer-driven health fair program. Locally, the 9Health Fair will be held Saturday at Eagle Valley Middle School.
“We have heard great success stories from people who come to the health fair,” said event organizer Joy Ortiz of the Eagle Lions Club. She noted that the kind of blood workup that can cost as much as $650 in the doctors office is only $35 at the 9Health Fair.
“It really saves people some money,” she notes.
While the low cost blood draw is the most popular activity at the fair, more than 20 free and low-cost health screenings are available to help people get a baseline check on their health. Screenings include a $30, 31-component comprehensive metabolic screening, a $25 Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) screening for men, and a $15 blood count screening.
Free screenings such as oral, osteoporosis, finger stick glucose, breast, body in balance, mental health, prostate/testicular, and colon are available. Educators from hundreds of health-related organizations are on hand to answer questions about a variety of health issues ranging from prescription drugs to diabetes to diet and exercise and more.
The Eagle Lions have hosted the 9Health fair since its inception back in 1980.
“Helping people prevent health emergencies through screenings and education is what 9Health Fair is all about,” said Jim Goddard, chief executive of 9Health Fair.
“Thousands of people are impacted each year by the information they receive at a 9Health Fair,” Goddard said. “This year we want people to take a pledge to attend and to bring a buddy.”
The doors open at 7:30 a.m. ann the fair ends promptly at 11:30 a.m. Ortiz said that because the fair is staffed totally by volunteers, the time guidelines are strictly observed.
