Arapahoe Basin Ski Area closes for the season today. Eight runs were open Saturday to people looking for some springtime turns

ARAPAHOE BASIN – Today the lifts stop turning at the last ski area still open for the 2009-10 season in Colorado.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area offered some excellent conditions this spring just as Summit County’s other resorts closed.

“We were pleased with how the season turned out,” A-Basin spokeswoman Leigh Hierholzer said, adding that the season will likely end up the fourth best since the ski area opened in 1946. “We were disappointed with the amount of snow at mid-season, but I think we worked well with what we had.”

Two lifts, eight runs and a terrain park remained open this weekend, and skiers and riders were getting kicks skimming across the waters of Lake Reveal.

Today is also the last opportunity to ride Exhibition Lift, which is to be replaced next season. Some 110 chairs from the lift were sold in 7 minutes last month for $450 each.

Saturday’s conditions were warm and breezy, with some clouds. Kyle Westendorf of Denver hit the A-Basin slopes before returning home for a round of golf.

“It was a good season,” he said, adding that it got off to a “slow start” but that spring conditions were much better.

Sam Dolzani of Boulder said he didn’t get to snowboard many powder days this season, but he spent some quality time in terrain parks.

“I had a good time,” he said, adding that he got to ride about 35 times. “I thought it was sick. I wish I could’ve ridden more.”

Closing festivities at A-Basin today are to include a DJ in the base area from 1-4 p.m.
