A lumberjack — and jill — party

AVON — The sixth annual Man of the Cliff event debuted at its new location at Nottingham Park in Avon on Saturday, bringing spectators and competitors from across the state and the country to compete in events such as ax throwing, keg tossing, wood chopping and tug-of-war. You know, manly stuff.
The event began in Red Cliff five years ago, with proceeds benefiting First Descents, a nonprofit that assists young adults with or recovering from cancer. They quickly outgrew the venue, and now are in the more central location in Avon. Bonfire Brewing provided a Pilsner just for the event, and both men and women tried their hand at the woodsy activities decked out in flannel, boots and facial hair (for the men).
It’s not too late if you missed Saturday’s festivities, as they continue today. New this year, and happening this morning, is a pancake breakfast and fire department versus police department tug of war competition. Proceeds go to the Eagle County Emergency Responders fund. Breakfast will go from 8 to 10 a.m. Find out more at http://www.manofthecliff.com.
