A profitable party

Jennifer Ellis
Jennifer EllisThorne Hensel, 6, and his brother, Zane, 9.

When Thorne Hensel first saw the invitations to his sixth birthday party, his mother Beth Hensel said he wanted to know who Lou was and why he was getting Thorne’s birthday presents.

Thorne’s birthday party was planned as a fundraiser for First Descents, the local nonprofit organization that hosts a camp every summer for young people with cancer. Thorne’s party was open to kids of all ages, and while the children were thoroughly entertained with the enormous bouncy castle, the parents were entertained with margaritas.

In the end, Thorne not only had a great birthday, but he and his brother also enjoyed contributing to their community.

After a week of gathering checks, Thorne and his 9-year-old brother, Zane, delivered almost $650 in donations to First Descents.
