VAIL –Just a month shy of what would have been her 95th birthday, Ella Fitzgerald will be celebrated at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek as part of the Vail Jazz Foundation’s Inaugural Winter Jazz Series. The event takes place on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Ann Hampton Callaway, one of the leading champions of the great American songbook will bring to life the stories and song of the “First Lady of Song.” In a memorable multi-media format, Callaway will tell stories, show video clips and sing Fitzgerald’s favorite tunes. Accompanying Callaway will be Ted Rosenthal on piano, Tom Kennedy on bass and Ernie Adams on drums. Trombone great, Wycliffe Gordon, will also be featured in this special performance.

Look for an in-depth story about the event in Saturday’s High Life section of the Vail Daily.

The “Multi Media Salute” is a format that has gained popularity at the Vail Jazz Foundations’ Vail Jazz Party each Labor Day Weekend. The format allows artists to tell stories, play music and show video clips. This way the audience becomes very intimate with Fitzgerald.

This event marks the first collaboration between the Vail Jazz Foundation and the Vilar Performing Arts Center and is the second event in the Vail Jazz Foundation’s Inaugural Winter Series. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased at http://www.vilarpac.org or 970-845-TIXS.
