A turntable battle on stage at Samana Lounge in Vail

Fort Knox Five versus Thunderball will perform at Samana Lounge in Vail Thursday. Four DJ’s will battle -using turntables, of course – on stage.Fort Knox Five has been a leading force in the international funk and breaks scene for nine years. Having released an arsenal of floor rocking singles and remixes, Fort Knox Five, “has the midas touch for producing heavy hitting records,” said promoter Ross Cohen. Sid Barcelona, Jon Horvath, Rob Myers and Steve Raskin are the masterminds behind the group. They established Fort Knox Recordings in 2003 to release music that crosses tempos and defies genres. Their sound interweaves live instrumentation with funky electronic breakbeats. They have done dozens of remixes, including mixes for A. Skillz and Krafty Kuts, Kraak & Smaak, Deekline & Wizard, and Malente as well as remixes for the legendary Tito Puente, Louis Armstrong and Bob Marley.Three of the members of Fort Knox Five are also in Thunderball – Myers, Raskin and Barcelona. Since the Washington, D.C.-based trio’s inception in 1997, their productions have shifted between the genres of drum n’ bass, dub and downtempo.The opening act tonight All Good Funk Alliance is Frank Cueto and Rusty Belicek. The duo has opened up for the legendary James Brown, written songs for Coca-Cola and appeared on the Breakspoll Top 50 list.
