Accidents cause delays on I-70
EAGLE COUNTY ” A string of truck crashes in Dowd Junction caused the closure of Interstate 70 for more than two hours Tuesday morning, state patrol said.
The eastbound lane of the Interstate was closed between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at Dowd Junction when several trucks lost control, crashed and blocked the road, said State Patrol Sgt. Shawn Olmstead.
No one was injured, but police had to reroute traffic on Highway 6 causing hour-long delays for those commuting from Edwards. It took some drivers as long as an hour-an-a-half to get from Edwards to Eagle-Vail.
“The trucks lost control and were blocking traffic. There was no way to get through,” Olmstead said.
The accident was caused by slippery and snowy roads, Olmstead said.
“We’re still working several accidents, but the highway is better than a couple hours ago,” Olmstead said Tuesday morning.
