Acclaimed paper artist hosts papermaking workshops this summer at library in Vail
VAIL — The Vail Public Library welcomes back local artist and author Helen Hiebert for a series of playing with paper Makerspace-inspired workshops. The Vail Public Library will hosts three separate workshops this summer.
The first workshop is set for 5:30 p.m. on June 18. Attendees will make “mini photo albums.” Envelopes are fun to work with because they come in a variety of colors and sizes and other papers can easily be slipped into the pockets. Learn how to cut windows in your envelopes and turn them into photo holders, and then learn a unique way to hinge the envelopes to create book pages.
‘PLAYING WITH POP-UPS’
Then at 5:30 p.m. on July 23, join Hiebert for “Playing With Pop-Ups.” Learn the basics of pop-ups as you create a selection of pop-ups from Hiebert’s new book, “Playing with Pop-Ups.” Attendees will make a paper castle, a flower and more if time allows.
‘FUN WAYS TO FOLD PAPER’
Wrapping up the workshops at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 will be “Fun Ways to Fold Paper.” Explore the art of paper folding. Attendees will create a selection of books made from one sheet of paper as well as some beautiful folding stars.
Hiebert is a nationally recognized papermaker and artist whose products have been featured in House and Garden, Country Living, Oregon Home and Architectural Records magazines. Hiebert is the author of many titles, including “The Papermaker’s Companion,” “Papermaking with Plants” and “Paper Illuminated.”
The cost for each workshop is $10, which includes materials and instruction. You may attend one, two or all three workshops but must RSVP for each one. Space is limited so please RSVP to Liz Willhoff at 970-479-2190 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
