VAIL VALLEY, Colorado –With more than 2,000 years of tradition under their belts, the New Shanghai Circus returns to the Vail Valley’s Vilar Performing Arts Center Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The troupe has wowed Beaver Creek audiences over the past several years with this fast-paced family spectacle.

The innovative New Shanghai Circus features more than 40 acrobats, aerialists, jugglers and contortionists. The performance combines traditional Eastern dance and acrobatics along with music, theatrics and stunning costumes. Feats will include everything from contortion to group and solo bicycle riding, as well as the lion dance, jar juggling, hoop-diving, trapeze, aerial ballet and more. The performance is a family-friendly show, suitable for audiences of all ages.

The New Shanghai Circus is one of the world’s leading purveyors of China’s prestigious, 2,000 year-old art form. Many of the performers started training at the age of nine, learning skills developed originally in village festivals. The performers learn overall acrobatics but specialize in one particular skill.

The New Shanghai Circus has been touring the world since 1991 and has received special mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for winning more national Gold, Silver and Bronze medals than any other acrobatic troupe. For the past decade, the company has toured overseas more than 30 times, to countries including Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, Turkey and Indonesia.
