Affidavit: Suspect told Fort Collins police officer ‘shoot me’

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – An arrest warrant affidavit says a suspect who was shot and wounded by Fort Collins police told an officer “just shoot me” as the suspect reached for a gun.

Aaron McKean was wounded June 27 after police responded to a call about a disturbance between a man and a woman.

Assault and menacing charges have been filed against McKean. He remains hospitalized and hasn’t entered a plea.

The affidavit says officer Kobey Northen shot McKean when McKean pulled a gun and ignored commands to stop and drop the weapon.

The affidavit says the officer was speaking with McKean’s ex-girlfriend at the time, and that she heard McKean say, “just shoot me.”

Northen is on paid leave during an investigation of the shooting.
