MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ” Senate candidate Al Franken is not expected to be among the featured speakers at next week’s Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Franken spokesman Andy Barr says Franken will fly into Denver on Sunday night, in time for Monday’s convention opener, and will return to Minnesota the following day and spend much of the week at the Minnesota State Fair ” a favorite campaigning spot for statewide candidates.

Barr says the Franken campaign did not ask for a speaking slot. While Franken would accept one if offered, Barr says, “we don’t think it’s going to happen.”

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota will address the convention on both opening night and again on Tuesday.

The second spot would be with a group of Democratic women senators on the night that Senator Hillary Clinton will address the gathering.
