Alex Miller named Vail Daily’s managing editor
EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado Alex Miller, a former managing editor of the Summit Daily News, is the new managing editor of the Vail Daily.He will replace Don Rogers, who leaves next week to become the publisher of the Record Courier in Gardnerville, Nev. Vail Daily Publisher Steve Gall made the announcement Tuesday.With Don Rogers leaving, we were left with some awfully big shoes to fill, Gall said. Alex Miller will bring a wealth of experience in managing newsrooms, business expertise, community involvement, and the desired continuity at the Vail operations.Miller is currently the editor-in-chief of Colorado Resort Publishing, a division of Colorado Mountain News Media the Vail Dailys parent company. It publishes magazines including Mountain House & Home, Beaver Creek Magazine, and Experience the Summit.Before taking that position, Miller was the Vail Dailys assistant managing editor. He will be responsible for editorial content of the Vail Daily, The Vail Trail, the Eagle Valley Enterprise, and Colorado Resort Publishing.Millers journalism experience began at the school newspaper at Summit High School in Summit County. He holds an English degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Earlier in this decade he left the managing editors job at the Summit Daily News to move to Southern California, where he was editor of LA Family Magazine.Alex was the editor of the Summit Daily News when I started at the Vail Daily in 1999, so hes no stranger to this job, Rogers said. Alex knows the staff, has plenty of experience, and he has all of the attributes to be the strongest editor weve ever had. For me thats extremely important.I didnt come here to build an operation that weakens after I leave. Ill take a lot of pride in the future success of the Vail Daily and especially the staff that keeps getting better.Miller, who has worked at the Vail Dailys Eagle-Vail office, said hes eager to get to work.The Vail Daily is an exceptionally strong community newspaper thats grown better with every year Don Rogers has had the helm, Miller said. Its a privilege to be able to help lead the Daily going into 2008, and I look forward to working with the publisher and the whole staff to keep the papers dedication to quality at the high level its at now.A newspaper reflects its community, and were fortunate to be putting out a paper in one of the greatest, most vibrant counties in the world.
