It’s getting very busy at the rummage sale site in Minturn.Organizers and volunteers are hustling to get ready for the Eagle Valley Community Fund Auction and Rummage Sale on Aug. 20, 21, 27 and 28 in Maloit Park. This granddaddy of such sales has been going 40 years strong. Last year, it raised $170,000 for community service. Pretty im-pressive.Vi Brown has overseen this operation forever, and helped guide one of the most incredible such annual sales to be found anywhere. It’s a great place to drop off books, clothes, toys, snow gear, paintings, furniture, utilities, you name it. It’s a great place to pick up the same. And it provides a great way for kids to earn funds for their various activities and trips through such organizations as Scouts and school bands, not to mention football teams.Talk about sweat equity, especially during this latest heat spell. For locals, the sale days themselves provide great opportunities to catch up with old friends, in addition to the deals and even steals. It’s also one of those fabulous touchstones of the community, an event that reminds you that despite whatever growth, however many new gated communities are in the works, those new faces checking their post office boxes and all that – there’s very much a community in this valley, and thriving at that.Doubt it? Well, go check it out in a few more weeks. A lot of people have put a lot of effort into creating one of those great flew markets and gathering places. You might even find something cool, and get that great deal.Vail, Colorado
