ALPHONSO HORNE, Trumpet
A native of Jacksonville, FL, Alphonso began playing trumpet in the sixth grade and continues to pursue both jazz and classical studies on the horn. He attends the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, where he is a member of his school jazz band that recently participated in the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington competition in New York, where he won an “Outstanding Soloist” award.
He has also received numerous other honors for his jazz and classical playing at festivals and orchestral competitions in Florida. A five-time member of the Florida Music Educators Association All State Band, Alphonso will be a member of the Tanglewood Youth Orchestra this summer. He has had the opportunity to play many gigs while attending school, including pre-game entertainment for his hometown NFL team the Jaguars.
Alphonso regularly performs for various community organizations such as Leadership Jacksonville, the Clara White Outreach Mission, the Salvation Army and at local churches. He writes music for his church and provides free lessons to a number of student members. He names Miles Davis, Clifford Brown and Roy Hargrove as his favorite trumpeters.
