Looking for a creative outlet this summer? Alpine Arts Center in Edwards has a full lineup of classes, summer camps, and workshops for all ages, from toddler to adult. Its schedule is designed for all abilities, so whether you are an experienced artist or a complete beginner, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

For children and teens, Alpine Arts Center’s summer camps are offered Tuesday through Friday throughout the summer, with four-day themed sessions or drop-ins for just a day. Kids camps such as love my pets, inventor’s workshop, sparkle, shimmer and glitter, and Colorado nature give children ages 3-6 and 7-12 a chance to explore all mediums including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and crafts, all based on the weekly theme. For teens, camps are specialized and include offerings such as clay handbuilding and wheel throwing, stained glass, photography, and decorate your room.

Lauren Merrill, owner of Alpine Arts Center is excited about summer camp enrollment and says, “With so many sports camps out there, it’s great to see parents recognizing the importance of art for their children’s development. The camps are filling up quickly and our teachers have a number of special projects planned for each week.”

Adult classes are broken down into monthly sessions, with a variety of classes in painting, ceramics, jewelry, photography, graphic design, crochet, stained glass, and drawing.

“I have been so impressed with my pottery class at Alpine Arts Center and look forward to taking more art classes and also some photography classes,” said Connie Gardner, a student from Alpine Arts Center. “The facility is amazing and the atmosphere is wonderful.”

In addition to classes, adult workshops are also offered for a chance to try something new without a long-term commitment. Outdoor workshops such as wildflower photography, plein-air painting, and ceramics raku take full advantage of summertime in the mountains. Other workshops such as art for the fun of It and cocktails and ceramics are designed to be carefree, relaxed classes where students are encouraged to create art in a social environment.

Throughout the summer, Alpine Arts Center encourages the community to take advantage of their facilities through drop-in activities, private parties, and special programs in addition to their class schedule.

“I love to see kids come in with their own projects, like dollhouses they want to paint or a gift they want to create for father’s day, and then we can help them make it happen,” Merrill said. “Some of the most creative ideas come from our customers asking us to provide a unique service or put on a private party with a fun twist.”

Drop-ins for art activities such as paint your own pottery, crafts, ceramics, and painting are welcome Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and evenings by appointment. Call Alpine Arts Center to inquire about scheduling a private event.
