VAIL — The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens presents an exotic photography adventure with professional photographer Amy Shutt on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During this full-day workshop, students will learn the basics of operating a DSLR camera, how to use aperture, shutter speed and ISO together and, ultimately, how to get the best nature shots possible.

"This is a unique opportunity for photography students and enthusiasts to learn from an expert, gain experience and gather immediate feedback," said Nicola Ripley, executive director of the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. "Enjoying a day surrounded by the vibrant plant life and vivid colors of the gardens — the highest botanical garden in North America — makes this workshop extra special."

The workshop begins with a lecture from Shutt, and following students will venture out into the gardens to immediately practice and apply what they've learned. Shutt will be on hand to offer one-on-one feedback and instruction.

Participants should bring water, lunch, sunscreen and camera gear.

About Amy Shutt

With over a decade of formal experience, Shutt specializes in animal, food, editorial and commercial photography in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and beyond. When she is not shooting in the studio, her favorite things to photograph are flora, fauna, landscapes and all things nature. She especially loves the swamps of Louisiana and the coast and deserts of California. Married to ornithologist Van Remsen of LSU Museum of Natural Sciences, she is constantly exposed to nature in her everyday married life. This has helped to fuel her passion for photographing wildlife and landscapes over the recent years.
