Alter Ego Ball takes place Saturday in West Vail

Special to the Daily

WEST VAIL, Colorado Halloween comes early to the Vail Valley on Saturday with the Alter Ego Ball, which takes place at Bagalis in West Vail. The event is an annual costume party/fundraiser for the Eagle Valley Child Care Association, which operates both Vail Child Care and the Miller Ranch Child Care Center. The Alter Ego Ball is a chance to eat, drink and let your crazy alter ego out while raising money for a good cause. Tickets are $25 at the door or in advance at either of the childcare centers, and includes dinner, dancing and a silent auction with spa packages, trips, skis and more. The party starts at 6 p.m. and will feature music from a local DJ and a buffet. This event was created by the Parent Advisory Boards from both schools as a way to raise funds to honor their teachers. Two years ago, the Parent Advisory Board became concerned that teachers were finding more lucrative positions elsewhere and wanted to work hard to retain the quality teachers they already employed. Proceeds from the Alter Ego Ball will be used to enhance staff benefits and classroom materials. For us, (this fundraiser) alleviates some of the budgetary stresses that we have, since were a non-profit. We try to keep it cost effective for our families to send their kids to daycare here, said Pam Melod, director of the Miller Ranch Child Care Center in Edwards. Vail Child Care Center opened in 2001 and Miller Ranch in 2006. The centers were conceptualized by a grouping of businesses: VVMC, Town of Vail, Slifer Designs, Eagle River Water & Sanitation and ACE Hardware. These businesses recognized that they were having trouble recruiting and retaining quality professionals because people could not find affordable, quality child care in the valley. Whether you are a parent with a child in daycare, a single person looking for a fantastic party, or a ghost or goblin out on the prowl, make this Saturday the night that your alter ego comes out, said local parent Charis Patterson. For more information, call 970-476-1615 or 970-926-2501.
