Angry diner opens fire, dies in police shootout
EVANS – Police say a man killed by officers outside a northern Colorado diner was angry after being kicked out.
The predawn Sunday shootout outside the Double Clutch Cafe in Evans started after the victim was thrown out about 1 a.m. Employees say the man, who hasn’t been named, was irritated and swore at a dishwasher who brought him coffee.
Diner employees called police. Officers escorted out the angry diner, but he allegedly went only as far as a parking lot across the street. Three hours later, police were called again after a cafe employee said the angry diner opened fire when the worker went out to smoke a cigarette.
Police say the man pointed a gun at officers and was killed by police fire. No one else was hurt.
