Animal shelter volunteer adopts ‘bong cat’

Associated Press

LINCOLN, Neb. – The kitten that drew worldwide attention four months ago after being found stuffed in a makeshift bong has a new home.

Capital Humane Society executive director Bob Downey said Thursday that a volunteer at the Lincoln shelter adopted 8-month-old Shadow.

The cat had been at the shelter since March 1. Marissa Vieux relinquished ownership of Shadow about two weeks ago.

Vieux’s boyfriend, Acea (ACE’-uh) Shomaker (SHOO’-make-er), has admitted to smoking marijuana from a contraption that had Shadow stuffed inside. He told authorities he was trying to calm the cat. He pleaded guilty this week to an animal cruelty charge.
