Tom Dunn

VAIL — Two new brokers, Tom Dunn and Buckner Matthews, are joining the Ascent Sotheby’s International team.

Native Texan Dunn was drawn to the Rocky Mountain lifestyle over 20 years ago and moved to the Vail Valley after graduating with a business and marketing degree from the University of Texas. Immediately excited by the Vail Valley lifestyle and with his swift business acumen for real estate, Dunn moved into property management with a local developer East West Resorts to launch their Bachelor Gulch division.

“I quickly learned while at East West that it was the interaction with the homeowners and clients that really made me tick,” said Dunn. “I discovered how much I enjoyed the negotiation of the deal, looking out for my clients’ best interests and the excitement of helping them achieve their goals.”

So it made sense that Dunn’s next business step was in the world of resort real estate brokerage.

Valley deals ‘Can Be Tricky’

“Some deals in this area can be tricky,” Dunn said. “Many of Vail and Beaver Creek’s buyers and sellers are savvy business people and sometimes need a more a sophisticated negotiating approach to pull a deal together. If a deal isn’t going the way we want, I explore all avenues to navigate to a positive outcome for all.”

Dunn’s untraditional and creative business sense has paid off. Throughout the years, he has consistently been awarded top real estate sales accolades.

With over 10 years of high-end real estate experience, Matthews, brings a different business perspective to the firm. Also a University of Texas graduate, Matthews made a last minute decision to cancel his plans for law school and headed to the Rocky Mountains. With his strong strategic and analytic capabilities, Matthews began his real estate career in the appraisal business.

‘Different Perspective’

“I can provide a different perspective than other brokers,” said Matthews. “My experience working with many the highest profile listings in the area offers an in-depth approach to value.”

Matthew is a preferred appraiser with US Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management.

“We are thrilled Tom and Buck are bringing their passion and capability to Ascent Sotheby’s International Realty, strengthening our efforts to continually surpass our clients expectations as the leading international boutique real estate firm in Vail,” said Tye Stockton, Realtor with Ascent Sotheby’s International Realty. “We are incredibly selective on who joins our team and their experience and excellent reputation in the field will be essential to our achieving new success in every part of Vail real estate market.”

Two Outdoorsmen

When Dunn is not busy working on his clients’ real estate deals he can be found biking the network of Vail Valley trails or snowboarding on Vail Mountain with his two children, 9-year-old son, Carson, and 11-year-old daughter Ella.

Matthews loves traveling, snowboarding and hiking. Buck, as he is often also called, lives in Edwards with his wife, Kathryn, and their cat, Tuna. He also frequently spends time in Aspen and is a member of the Aspen Board of Realtors.
