Avon Police receive top award
AVON — On April 2, the Avon Police Department became the smallest Colorado law enforcement agency and only department on the Western Slope to become nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, the gold standard of public safety. In an awards ceremony in St. Louis, Missouri, Chief Robert Ticer, Deputy Chief Greg Daly and Accreditation Manager Krista Jaramillo accepted this prestigious award from the commission.
“This accreditation award exemplifies and showcases the excellent and dedicated teamwork by the Avon Police Department and its commitment to positively ‘Make a Difference’ every day in our community,” Ticer said. “The staff and officers at the Avon Police Department take pride in serving our community. On behalf of our community, we are honored to accept this award and accreditation.”
The award reaffirms that the Avon Police Department operates under policies and guidelines that are nationally and internationally recognized. The purpose of Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies accreditation is to strengthen crime prevention, formalize procedures, establish fair and nondiscriminatory personnel practices, improve service delivery, solidify interagency cooperation and increase community confidence in the department. By implementing the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies standards, safety is improved for both community members and police officers thereby reducing risk and liability. The standards encourage building relationships with citizens through outreach programs such as the Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy, Latino Police Academy, National Night Out and Kids, Cops and Hoops.
