Daily staff report

EAGLE — Eagle County Public Health is encouraging all community members to get vaccinated against the flu as soon as possible to protect themselves from seasonal influenza. The vaccine is available from local health care providers, clinics and pharmacies throughout the county and most health insurance plans cover the cost of a flu shot. To locate the nearest flu vaccine, visit http://www.flushot.healthmap.org.

Eagle County Public Health is offering $14 flu shots to uninsured children, as well as to those covered by Medicaid or an insurance that does not cover the cost of flu vaccine. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Eagle County Public Health is also an in-network provider for Rocky Mountain Health Plans and CHP+ and will bill insurance for all covered persons.

SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT

Contact one of the three Eagle County Public Health locations to schedule an appointment:

• Avon, 100 W. Beaver Creek Blvd., Suite 107, 970-328-9813.

• Eagle, 551 Broadway, 970-328-8840.

• El Jebel, 0020 Eagle County Drive, Suite E, 970-328-9586.

Everyone 6 months of age and older should be vaccinated against the flu every year. According to Eagle County Public Health Director Jennifer Ludwig, flu is a preventable illness and flu shots are critical to keeping families and communities healthy.

‘DON’T WAIT’

“While several public health issues have dominated the news lately, the reality is flu will seriously affect hundreds of thousands of Americans this year — far more than enterovirus and infinitely more than Ebola,” she said. “So don’t wait; get your vaccination now to protect yourself and your family against the flu.”

Eagle County Public Health has partnered with FluNearYou.org on a real-time disease tracking system to assist in flu prevention. Community members can aid in the effort by visiting http://www.flunearyou.org/eaglecounty. For more information on the flu, visit http://www.eaglecounty.us/flu.
