Forms now available for Vail Rec District election
VAIL — Nominating petitions are currently available for candidates interested in running for two open seats on the five-member Vail Recreation District board of directors. The regular election for the district will be held May 3. Self-nomination and acceptance forms are available by going to http://www.vailrec.com/elections or may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from April Heredia, the designated election official in the district’s administration office, adjacent to the Ford Park softball fields.
Candidates interested in running for the four-year term have until Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. to return the self-nomination and acceptance form to be included on the ballot and no later than Feb. 29 to be a write-in candidate. The self-nomination and acceptance form must be witnessed by a registered voter in the state of Colorado.
Board seats up for election this year are held by incumbents Bill Suarez and Jeff Wiles. Wiles’ position is term-limited, and he cannot run for another term this year. The terms of the remaining board members — Kevin Foley, Tom Saalfeld and Kim Newbury — will be up for election in May of 2018.
To qualify for the upcoming district election, candidates must be an eligible voter in Colorado and must be either a district resident, own property in the district or be the spouse of a property owner in the district.
Voters will cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 3, in the Grand View Room, on the third floor of the Lionshead parking structure. This election will be held in conjunction with the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District election.
Absentee voting requests are also being accepted. An application for absentee ballot can be downloaded at http://www.vailrec.com/elections or may be requested at the district’s administration office. The final day to file an absentee ballot application is April 29.
